About

Hi!

I'm Mary. I'm a college professor in Canada, with a PhD in Sociology. I'm also a mom of two young boys.

Feeling frustrated by the types of media available for my kids, I decided to do something about it.

Big World Times is a source of evidence-based research, designed for young learners. No AI, no fake-news, no conspiracy theories, and no advertisements.

We celebrate analogue (hello, physical newspapers!) and embrace safe online learning spaces – with digital downloads for kiddos who like to read online.

If we want our kids to become caring global citizens, we have to help them develop the critical thinking skills they need to thrive in this big, beautiful, and complicated world.

That's what our newspapers are all about: awesome insights for big world thinking

Kids deserve to learn about the world around them through real, evidence-based research.

It's really that simple :)

About our newspapers

Big World Times is where children explore big ideas about the world!

We turn real research from experts into fun, easy-to-read stories made just for children aged 9–12.

Each issue has sections on art, business, culture, environment, fashion, science, sports, and wellbeing. Kids will learn something new each and every time they pick up their paper.

How it works

You can buy a single newspaper, or subscribe and get 4 newspapers per year. You can buy a physical copy, or buy a digital version. You choose!

We only publish academic and peer-reviewed, evidence-based research.

Because we don't use AI to write our articles, you won't waste time worrying about exposing children to AI hallucinations, fake news, or even conspiracy theories.

Each article is selected by a real academic, who then carefully translates research findings into kid friendly language.
